U.W. Medical Center Expansion Green Roof

General Contractor: Skanska USA Building Inc.

Landscape Architect: SiteWorkShop, LLC
System: LA design & LiveRoof

Type: Intensive (LA designed) & Extensive (modular tray)

Size: 18,400 sf
 

Description:  Along with complete on-grade landscaping and site features, this expansion of an existing, occupied hospital includes significant improvements to elevated interior courtyards on two levels.  LiveRoof modular trays were installed along with 4,300 SF of intensive landscaping and complete irrigation.  Several unique features were incorporated into the design, including solid copper passive water features and 8’ square custom planters with IPE timber trellis structures.  Aggregate paving in the courtyards includes flagstone, Mexican beach pebbles, rainbow pebbles and recycled tumbled glass, all contained by custom steel edging.  All material, including 500 cubic yards of soil and aggregates, was hoisted and placed with a tower crane.

 

 

 

 

 


U.W. Husky Union Building Renovation - Green Roof

System:  Xeroflor (pre-vegetated mat)

Size:  2,000 SF
 

Description:  This project included material hoisting and installation of a Xeroflor system as part of the latest renovation of the Husky Union Building.  With a very short construction schedule, timing and coordination were critical.  Subsurface irrigation was installed between the Xeroflor layers, and a drainage layer was required under an adjacent pedestal paver system.

 

 

 

 


U.W. Molecular Engineering Green Roof

Description:  Project included three separate green roofs complete with an extensive pre-vegetated mat system, gravel ballast, pavers, and irrigation systems. 

 

 

 


Lake Union Floating Home

General Contractor: Envirotecture Construction Corporation

Size: 400 sf

 

Description: Unique wrap around green roof surrounding the outdoor patio area of a new floating home. This green roof is a built up system featuring vegetated sedum tiles and a small vegetation-free gravel ballast zone.

 

 

 

 

 


Multicare Good Samaritan Hospital

Description: 14,000 square feet of extensive green roofs on roof levels 4 & 5. Scope of work including installation of drainage layers, separation filter fabrics, edging, growing media, automatic sub-surface irrigation systems, erosion control netting, paver walkways, drainage access boxes, planting, and 2 years of maintenance.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 


Amazon Building B34

Size: 6,000 sf
 

Description: Work included ground level and right of way planters, over-structure plaza planters, Rain Gardens, 2nd, 3rd, 11th, and 12th floor terrace planters, as well as a 6,000sf extensive green roof on top of the restored and historic Terry Avenue Building. Unique aspects included moving materials to all terraces after the tower crane had been removed and transplanting of a 50’ tall (14”-16” caliper) Scarlet Oak Tree.

Seattle Center 5th Ave N Garage

General Contractor:  Sellen Construction Company

Size:  60,000 sf

 

Description:  Owned by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, this 60,000 square foot extensive green roof project included hoisting and installation of drainage components, aluminum edging, concrete paver maintenance border, pop-up spray irrigation system, rooting substrate, and 2,000,000 sedum plugs and cuttings.  Also included was installation of large trees on structure, and site perimeter landscaping all with drip irrigation system.

Description:  This project featured extensive and intensive built-up systems as well as on-grade landscaping, irrigation, site furnishings, water feature and pedestal-set pavers.

 

 

 


PTOI Elder Center Green Roof

Description:  A large extensive Hydrotech built-up system including drainage layers, protection fabric, soil, irrigation, plantings and erosion control fabric.

 

 

 

 

 

 


The "Bart Harvey" Green Roof (Cascade Senior Center)

Description:  Extensive and intensive Soprema built-up systems as well as on-grade landscaping, irrigation, gravel ballast, edging and rubber pavers on roof.

 

 

 

 


Epiphany School

Description:  In conjunction with a full on-grade landscape installation including site furnishings, this project includes a smaller but unique pre-vegetated mat green roof system with gravel ballast and irrigation.

 

 

 


Issaquah High School

Description: 4,000 sf Green Roof using Columbia Green’s AVRS Tray System with an assortment of NW Sedum cuttings and a few potted natives. Temporary Irrigation was provided.

Federal Reserve Bank

Description:  This project included a semi-intensive roof garden which featured trees, shrubs, ground cover and perennials.  This was in addition to the on-grade landscape which included extensive concrete block retaining walls, irrigation, drainage, fine lawns and meadow plantings, ornamental plantings, a retention pond with 30,000 emergent plantings, river cobble mulch and reinforced turf pavement system.
